A new diabetes diagnosis can be especially overwhelming. The Diabetes Education Program at Aspen Valley Hospital is designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills you need to feel confident about caring for yourself and staying healthy over a lifetime.
Our Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) helps you navigate your way through healthy eating and meal planning, physical activity, medication use and the latest diabetes technologies for the best health outcomes.

We provide individual counseling for people with Type 1 diabetes. These sessions teach intensive management to allow greatest flexibility for a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Offered in both individual and class settings, this program teaches you how to take care of diabetes day-to-day. It is designed for people with Type 2 diabetes who need to update skills or begin to manage a new diagnosis of diabetes. This program focuses on ways to improve quality of life and prevent complications.

Yes, you can monitor your blood sugar without finger pricks! CGM technology is revolutionizing diabetes care and helping people to really see the areas they need to time in target to stay healthy over a lifetime.
Our CGM Program includes two systems and allows you to try a new technology for 10-14 days and collect data 24/7 that helps you and your practitioner problem solve to make informed decisions about your diabetes management.
Laurie Osier, RDN, CDCES completed her post-graduate internship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA with a Joslin Diabetes Center affiliation. She has held a specialty certification in diabetes management since 2008 and recently completed a CGM certificate program.
Her passion is helping patients manage their diabetes in a supportive, coaching environment using all the latest technologies to increase time in target. She believes in meeting people where they are and helping them take realistic steps toward their long-term goals. Her ongoing professional development centers on new discoveries in the field of diabetes and methods for helping people move through the change process and establish new habits.
Your primary care provider can refer you to the Diabetes Education Center or you can call to inquire. All programs are offered in Aspen and Basalt, in both English and Spanish.
